2014 Recruiting: Weekend Visitor Spotlight, Part 2.
KNOXVILLE—The Vols hosted more than two dozen of the nation’s best prospects over the weekend. Visitors included the top players in the state, Jalen Hurd, Josh Malone, and Todd Kelly Jr., plus the Berry twins. We have info on each of them on our “2014 Vol Targets” page. Below you’ll find info on two more visitors, safety RaShaan Gaulden and defensive end Dewayne Hendrix. We’ve included them on our targets page as well.
RaShaan Gaulden
4-star 247Sports Composite
6-1, 175 pounds, Safety
Nashville, Tennessee (Independence)
Rated as the No. 9 player in Tennessee by 247Sports, Gaulden left junior day (Feb. 16th) proclaiming the Vols as the team rapidly ascending his list. The talented safety, who runs a 4.5 40-yard dash, led his team in tackles with 68, accounted for 2 sacks, and 4 interceptions last year. He also lettered in wrestling and track. Gaulden has offers from Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Nebraska, and others. His teammate and close friend Vic Wharton is a Vol commitment, and though the Commodores are the leaders to sign him, Tennessee is closing fast.
Dewayne Hendrix
4-star Rivals and 247Sports
6-5, 250 pounds, Defensive End
O’Fallon, IL (O’Fallon)
Rated in the Rivals and 247Sports top 250, Hendrix picked up an offer from Tennessee during his junior day visit. He tallied 60 tackles (12 for a loss) and 4 sacks in 2012. The Vols could lose as many as six defensive lineman and will be tasked with replacing those losses in the 2014 class. Hendrix would be a great pickup, and could grow into playing multiple positions on the defensive front. He has notable offers from Illinois, Mississippi, Missouri, Michigan State, and Syracuse.
