KNOXVILLE—The Vols picked up a huge win over No. 9/11 South Carolina Saturday. Here are a few stats and observations from the Tennessee win.

*The win broke a ton of streaks for the Vols. Tennessee was 0-19 against ranked teams going back to a 2009 win over the Gamecocks. Butch Jones was 0-8 vs ranked teams prior to Saturday’s big victory. It took Butch Jones just seven games on Rocky Top to accomplish something Dooley couldn’t in three years: beat a ranked team.

*Tennessee head coach Butch Jones is 9-1 after an open date and 43-2 when his teams are leading at the half. He has won seven games when trailing in the 4th quarter.

*Junior QB Justin Worley struggled for much of the game and had just 91 yards passing heading into the 4th quarter. He played his best football of the day during a 4th quarter that saw him go 4/9 for 88 yards. That’s becoming a trend for Worley. He was 5/9 in the 4th quarter last week for 77 yards after throwing for just 125 yards in the previous three quarters.

*The Vols outgained the Gamecocks by 105 yards in the 4th quarter, 120-15. Tennessee also outscored the Gamecocks 6-0 in the final period.

*Palardy’s game-winning 19 year field goal was the first game-winning attempt of his career at any level.

*South Carolina has never scored more than 24 points in Knoxville. The Gamecocks now have a 2-15 record when playing the Vols in Knoxville.

*The Vols held South Carolina to 384 yards and 21 points, that’s 13.5 points and 102 yards under their respective season averages prior to Saturday’s game.

*South Carolina threw for just 166 yards, 94 yards under their season average. The Vols rank 27th nationally in pass efficiency defense.

*Last year, the Vols gave up 1,070 yards and 89 points to South Carolina and Georgia. This year Tennessee held those two opponents to 818 yards and 55 points.

*Marlon Walls had his best game of the year. He finished the game with 4 tackles and 2.5 sacks. In 12 games last season, Walls didn’t record a sack. He now has 4.5 sacks this year.

*Dan McCullers played his best game as a Vol. Tennessee’s mammoth defensive tackle recorded six tackles, including 2.5 for a loss.

*The Vols defense recorded two takeaways Saturday and now has 17 on the season—equaling 2012’s season total. The Vols rank 14th nationally in turnovers forced.
