What the scouts say:

“Dobbs is a two-sport star. He stars on the gridiron and the diamond, so he is being recruited to play both sports. As a quarterback, he has a lot of things that you like; he’s a leader in the huddle, he has great pocket awareness, he sees the field well, he has a quick release, and he throws an accurate ball. He is still very thin and he still splits time between football and baseball, so he has room to get bigger physically.” – Chad Simmons, Scout.com

“Dobbs is a very intriguing dual-threat quarterback with pocket passer measurables and excellent arm strength. He plays out of a shotgun spread offense and is a true dual-threat. The ball jumps out of his hand — he throws with authority. He really gets a lot out of his arm on deep and intermediate throws. He displays nice RPMs and the ball comes out quickly on underneath routes. He has shown the ability to make throws to all levels and also show some touch on deeper routes down the sideline. He can stand tall and confident in the pocket and fit the ball into tight spots outside the numbers. He is very dangerous outside of the pocket because he has the arm strength to throw back across his body and deep when off his back foot. He is a runner with the elusiveness of a smaller player and will make the first defender miss in space. He is creative and capable of eluding the rush and making things happen on the move when the initial play breaks down.”— ESPN

“He was one of those guys that a lot of people didn’t know a whole lot about. Even in the South, people didn’t know a lot about him, but he’s a late bloomer. He has a unique skill set. He has a live arm, a quick release. He’s able to spin it pretty consistently. And he’s extremely smart. Not just book smart, but football smart, just in terms of making the right reads and checks.”—Greg Biggins, Scout.com
