2015 prospect Jauan Jennings commits to Tennessee

FIrecruitThe Vols added a tenth commitment to the 2015 class Monday morning when 4-star athlete Jauan Jennings pledged to play for Butch Jones. Tennessee’s 2015 class ranks 6th nationally per 247Sports. Jennings plays quarterback and safety for Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and is also a star on the basketball court.

“He’s a winner. He has a dynamic personality and he’s a dynamic quarterback with a big-time arm. He’s still a little raw, but has an unlimited amount of talent. He’s a no-brainer when it comes to getting an offer,” said Blackman head coach Phillip Shadowens.

The Basics: A 6-3, 190-pound athlete who plays safety and quarterback, Jennings is rated as a 4-star prospect by Rivals, Scout, ESPN, and 247Sports. Jennings is rated as the No. 1 prospect in Tennessee and No. 80 overall player in the 2015 class by 247Sports. Last season was his first  at quarterback—he threw for 1,465 yards, 14 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and ran for 815 yards and 10 TDs. He’s likely to get his first look at quarterback in college but projects the best at safety. He chose the Vols over Auburn, Alabama, Duke, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, and others.

Scouting Report: Excellent height and weight on his frame. Covers a lot of ground with his long stride. Does a good job of roaming the middle of the field and reading and reacting. A natural ball catcher. Reads the QB well in zone coverage and gets a good break on the football. A fluid player given his length and can play in space. Jennings is a long and athletic prospect who shows productivity on both sides of the football. Projects as a safety at the next level depending on the defensive scheme. Big frame to fill out that makes linebacker a possibility. – ESPN.com
