VolFeed: Cuonzo Martin Bolts, Twitter Reacts
Shock, anger, outrage and a perverse glee were each on display as the world discovered that Cuonzo Martin was leaving the University of Tennessee Basketball program for a lateral move to California. Many, including myself and my colleagues, believed that the threat of Martin leaving had passed when he declined to head to Marquette. There was, of course, some logic to this position. Martin and his staff were still active in recruiting future Vols as recently as YESTERDAY.
It all started with a cryptic email sent by the UT Athletic Department. It escalated quickly.

Shout out to @wesrucker247 who now gets to cover his 7th football/men’s bball/women’s bball coach or AD search since 2008.

Can’t blame Cuonzo but UT did not really want him long term.
— Kyle Webber (@KyleWebber44) April 15, 2014

— Tobias Harris (@tobias31) April 15, 2014
Tennessee: We’re not going to try to get Bruce Pearl. We are committed to Cuonzo Martin. Cuonzo Martin: Lol, cool story bro. IM GONE ✌️

I’m as surprised as anybody at Martin’s exit, but said all season that I wouldn’t blame him if he left. Still crazy, though.
— Daniel Lewis (@DanielNooga) April 15, 2014
Can’t blame Coach for leaving he never felt welcome. And he did a heckuva job. Sometimes you don’t know what you got til it’s gone.
— Jacques McClendon (@jmcc65) April 15, 2014
Phil Jackson, Tyler Summitt, Michael Jordan, Ghost of Wooden, and Calipari top my list, FYI.
— VolRumorMill (@VolRumorMill) April 15, 2014
Confirmed with UT player that #Vols were informed of Cuonzo Martin’s departure to Cal in a team meeting at 12:30. Martin was not present.
— Ben Frederickson (@Ben_Fred) April 15, 2014
Cuonzo Martin was A) never going to be Bruce Pearl to UT fans, and B) probably going to have a bad team next year. He’s smart to bounce.
— Gary Parrish (@GaryParrishCBS) April 15, 2014
Man, Cuonzo didn’t even address the players? Lane Kiffin thinks that’s cold…

I want to thank The University Of Tennessee and the fans for your support unfortunately I announce my de-commitment from Tennessee
— Kingsley Okoroh (@Kingokoroh) April 15, 2014
Kingsley Okoroh spent roughly 35 minutes as a Vol. Does that qualify him as a #VFL? Asking for a friend.
— Evan Woodbery (@TennesseeBeat) April 15, 2014

That UT players seem to be publicly siding with Cuonzo Martin should tell you they didn’t like the way their coach was treated.
— Gary Parrish (@GaryParrishCBS) April 15, 2014
‘cuonzo’, ‘zenimaxs’, ‘jailbroken’ & ‘tennessees’ are now trending in United States http://t.co/D3FxV6pu8Y
— Trendsmap USA (@TrendsmapUSA) April 15, 2014
Yep. RT @GaryParrishCBS: Players are usually pissed when their coach bolts. But not the Tennessee players. They seem happy for Cuonzo Martin
— BasketballTime in TN (@BBallTimeMag) April 15, 2014
@GaryParrishCBS agreed
— Jarnell Stokes (@JarnellStokes) April 15, 2014
UT athletic director Dave Hart presser is underway. He says he wishes Cuonzo Martin nothing but success at Cal. National search starts now.
— Ben Frederickson (@Ben_Fred) April 15, 2014
HART: Cuonzo knew beyond a shout of doubt, we wanted him here to stay. We offered Cuonzo close to 500K raise and 2 yr extension.
— Tennessee Basketball (@Vol_Hoops) April 15, 2014
Yes they did. RT @WillWestWNML: $1.8 million with a $1 million buyout. Good gracious they lowballed that guy
— BasketballTime in TN (@BBallTimeMag) April 15, 2014
